Data Recovery

When all your important files are at stake, You only get a single chance to get them back, Don't trust the wrong person with your data, Trust Think Smart. We know data, we get it back.

Data recovery is needed in many different cases and the process of recovering any data is different for each one. The complexity and required tools for each one depends on the level of data corruption and/or hardware damage of the hard drive in question.

Data recovery can be used when a computer is damaged in some way preventing it from working or when a corrupted operating system will no longer boot up blocking access to any data; in these cases where the data is there and uncorrupted all that is needed is to get the hard drive and connect it to a computer with installed with the tools needed to access the drive regardless of file permissions, operating system, etc. and dump them all off onto a seperate temporary drive and finally is transferred onto a diffferent computer's hard drive with an installed operating system otherwise it is transferred onto a new drive installed with a new operating system or the old drive after it's been completely scrubbed, error checked, and installed with the operating system desired, each of these second options end with the new hard drive being put back or into whatever computer the customer intends to be using.

That example is the simplest use for data recovery; it takes only a small effort when using the proper softwares best suited to the task and is able to be finished in very little time.

The next easiest use is to recover files deleted from an operating system. When you delete a file it doesn't actually remvove the data it just lets the file system know that it can write over that file because it is no longer needed. That means that depending on how long ago the file was deleted and how many pieces of the file have been overwritten and how many times. If the file is completely intact it's a simple process of putting the scattered parts back together into a file. When pieces have been overwritten it creates a corrupted file which, depending on the extent of the corruption, will have to be recovered using simple tools or very complex advanded user tools when the corruption is at a higher level.

For cases where the drive has been formatted, scrubbed, zero-filled, or various other methods of corrupting the data on a hard drive; the task is much more difficult as these processes are designed to make recovery of the drives previous data a complex process that is in severe cases nearly impossible outside of using a supercomputer for the task.

Fortunately that level of corruption takes lots of time and usually it's not something meant to ever be recovered; most recovery operations that fall into this category are simple zero-filled or formatted hard drives which makes them more time consuming and requires special software but in the case it is needed the possibility is there.

The final case for data recovery falls into the category of a hardware issue. These are unpredictable and entirely depend on what the damage is, if it's repairable, and the severity of the disk's damage.

If you have lost access to your data just give us a call. We'll discuss how it's been lost and what may be used for its recovery; in the event you want us to perform the recovery we'll come get your hard drive or you can bring either the computer or just the hard drive to us.

Once we check the disk and know exactly what is needed for recovery we'll give you an update of the estimated time for the service, exactly what options you want done during the process, and agree on a final price quote to move forward.
